Dawn Marie Heier Cattles

Dawn Marie Heier Cattles, age 74, passed suddenly from this world on January 21, 2022 in Albuquerque, NM.

Dawn was born on May 8, 1947 at the Springer Hospital in Hettinger, ND to parents Marie (Schwarzwalter) Heier and Rueben Heier of rural Ludlow, SD in Harding County.

She entered grade 1 at the age of 5 in the country school of Norbeck. Dawn graduated from Hettinger High School with honors while working full time at the City Cafe. Later she graduated from St John’s McNamara School of Nursing at St. Martins in Rapid City, SD as a registered nurse.

Dawn’s family included one son, Justin McClain, daughter-in-law, Melanie and five wonderful grandchildren - Kruize, Korienna, Kiara, Kristian, Angel and beautiful great-granddaughter, Arieaunna, her sister, Rosella Heier Beaumont (Harold Samdal) of Rapid City and their families of SD and WA , one brother, Iver Heier (Beverly) of rural Prairie City and their families of ND and SD, and her niece Cherish Muzik (Nat) of CA and her family, as well as numerous cousins.

Preceding Dawn in death were  sister, Ruby Heier, twin sisters, Darlene Heier and DeLila Hill, an unnamed baby brother, her parents, Rueben and Marie, her son Justin, her late husband, Clint Cattles and brother-in-law, Ron Hill.

Dawn will be remembered as an ‘in charge’ sibling, her dad’s right hand on the farm equipment, an honor student, a compassionate, career registered nurse and caregiver, Loving, caring, dedicated mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and child of God. She was a talented caregiver, cook,’fix it her-selfer’, and piano player.

We cannot even begin to name  or count all the lives she touched, helped or cared for in ND, SD, MN, WY, CO,NM and England. She will be missed, every day.

A celebration of Dawn’s life is being planned for later in South Dakota.
