David Edmund Uhrig
David Edmund Uhrig was born on November 7, 1944, the first son to Edmund Dale Uhrig and Dorothy May (Little) Uhrig, in Port Townsend, Washington. In the next few years, he became a big brother to a sister, Anna Marie Uhrig and a brother, Danial Arthur Uhrig.
Several years, and many moves later the family moved to Midland, South Dakota where he graduated from high school, worked for Ivan Schilling’s Service Station for a couple of years. He then joined the US Army, spent time in Germany and back to South Dakota. David was a dreamer. He was always chasing after “more” and “better.” His true blessings were his family, the children who called him Dad and the grandkids who called him grandpa.
After living in Ohio for several years, working as a mechanic, he moved back to South Dakota, living in Philip where he retired. From there he moved to Wall.
David died at Ft. Meade VA Hospital from cancer on January 23, 2022, at the age of 77.
He is survived by his children, Sabrina Uhrig (Jim Stewart), Tanya Uhrig, Amanda Uhrig, and Jonathan Uhrig, all of Ohio, Dale (Jenni) Garber of Pierre, SD, and Kimberly (David) Weber of Ohio; many grandchildren; sister, Anna (Larry) Cvach of Midland, SD; sister-in-law, Marilyn Uhrig of Philip, SD; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and special friends, Gene and Doris Daniels of Philip, SD.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Dorothy Uhrig; brother, Danial A. Uhrig; and son, Alan Garber.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 am MDT, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Military honors will be conducted by the Spearfish Volunteer Honor Guard and the SD Army National Guard.
