Charlotte O’Leary

Charlotte Leta Flanagan, age 77, of Faith, SD, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in Faith. She was born March 31, 1949, to ranchers John and Connie (Trojahn) Flanagan. She was born in the Lowe Hospital in Mobridge, SD. She grew up in the Trail City/Timberlake area with her three siblings, Blaine, Stella, and Rex Flanagan.

She married Donald D. LaPlante on June 29, 1968, in Winner, SD. Donnie and Charlotte had three children: Daris, Gaylord, and Sidney LaPlante. They were married for fourteen years before Donnie was in a snowmobile accident. Charlotte remarried to Michael O’Leary in March of 1983 until his death in October of 1983. She had baby Michael L. O’Leary on February 4, 1984.

Charlotte was no stranger to hard work; she loved riding horses, ranching, gardening, and taking care of her chickens. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, and telling everyone about her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved baking, she had hundreds of recipes written down but didn’t really follow any of them.

She loved God and her family so much and lived a simple life. Charlotte was the kindest and most caring friend, grandma, and Mama. We will feel her absence in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Connie, and her brothers Blaine and Rex. She is survived by her sons Daris LaPlante, Gaylord LaPlante (Jessie), Sid LaPlante (Kenna), and Michael O’Leary. Sister Stella (Dave) Ager, Thirteen Grandchildren: Kirsten, Taiton, Brooke, Treye, Kane, Clay, Tristin, Macy, Lany, Trigg, Gaby, Jaden, and Peyson. Fourteen great-grandchildren: Jack, Florian, Royce, Lonnie, Merrit, Roz, Hazel, Talon, Rylan, Locklyn, Swayde, Phoenix, Easton, and Riggin.  

Memorial services for Charlotte O’Leary, 77, of Faith were held Thursday, September 3, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte.
