Mike Williamson
Mike Williamson of Spearfish, SD passed away December 7th at the Mayo St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 65.
Mikel Eugene Williamson was born November 21st, 1957 to Frederick and Ruth Williamson in Kansas City, MO. He joined older sisters Kristi and Susan. Almost seven years later his younger brother Steven was born. Mike graduated high school from Archbishop Bergan Catholic High School in Fremont, NE in 1976.
In 1985, he married Cindy Mathews and they had 5 children: Jenifer, Charles, James, Richard, and Robert. Over the years he worked several jobs, but he spent most of his career working for Boeing and then later Gleeson Constructors. He also worked for the Midland School as the head custodian for a few years while his children attended high school there.
Mike adored his children and absolutely loved watching his sons’ sporting events when they were in high school. One of his proudest moments was watching Rob on the Philip High School relay team win every event they entered at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. He enjoyed listening to music and was an avid concert goer most of his life. Once he retired, his favorite thing to do was to load up in his pickup and go drive around the Black Hills for the day, especially Spearfish Canyon. Mike always had a good time everywhere he went and could make friends with complete strangers within a matter of minutes. His sense of humor will be greatly missed by many.
In November of 2022 Mike found out he had lung cancer. Before a biopsy was completed to find out the extent of the cancer, his health took a turn and he ended up in the ICU at the Mayo Hospital where he ultimately passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
He is survived by his children Jenifer (Tyson) Brooks, Charles (Caitlin), James, Richard, and Robert Williamson; grandchildren Ruby, Elijah, and Abigail Williamson and Taylor and Steven Brooks; his sisters Kristi Williamson and Sue Brusnahan; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven.
No formal service will be held for Mike, but a party in his honor will be held sometime this summer with a date and location yet to be determined. All will be welcome to share stories and enjoy a good time, just like Mike would have wanted.
