Philip second in region track

The Philip boys’ and girls’ teams both came home with second place honors from the Region 7B Track and Field Meet, Thursday, May 19, at the Rapid City Christian field.
Out of 11 schools represented, the Philip boys earned 101 points. Rapid City Christian finished the day with 160. The Philip girls totaled 142 points, with Rapid City Christian getting 154.5.
“The Philip Scotties had another great day at the Region 7B track meet,” said head coach Tom Parquet. “We were runner-up in both men’s and women’s team points. The ladies and men both have four relay teams headed to state, along with our individual events. Hopefully, we have a good week of practice and can take care of the little things for next week.”
Athletes could qualify for the state track meet by breaking a minimum distance or time in separate events. Also, the first two placings in each event at the region meet qualifies those athletes for state.
Philip will be represented at state by Ellie Coyle and Dilyn Terkildsen in the 1,600 meter run, 3,200 meter run and 4x800 meter relay. Peyton Kuchenbecker will compete in the high jump, 1,600 meter relay and medley relay. Tia Guptill is in the 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay and the medley. Cappie West qualified in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Bailey Bierle will run in the 4x800 relay and the medley. Paige Slovek is in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Other relay runners include Sam Fillingim and Cylver Lurz in the 4x100, and Jewel Jones in the medley. Cheyenne Pinney and Anna Belle McIlravy will both compete in the pole vault.
For the Philip boys’ team, Chase Wright will compete at state in the shop put. He and Riley Heltzel will both throw the discus. Cooper West will be in the pole vault, as well as in the 4x100, 4x200 and medley relays. Dalton Kinsley qualified in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and in the 4x200 and medley relays. Garrett Snook and Deontae Thorn will both run in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and medley relays. Clayton Fosheim is in the 4x400 and medley relays. Lane Kroetch qualified in the 4x100 relay.
