A high probability that this is going to hurt!

Elshere, Bail top saddle bronc riders

Kick-off to Scotty Philip Days!

The 10th annual Philip Invitational Matched Bronc Ride, Friday, June 17, at the Philip Roping Arena, started out with 30 top Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association cowboys versus 40 top PRCA bucking broncs from Korkow Rodeo, Calgary Stampede and Summit Rodeo livestock companies.
When the dust cleared and dusk remained, two saddle bronc riders had survived their eight seconds on top of their broncs with the highest points. J.J. Elshere, Hereford, and Jessie Bail, Camp Crook,  each came away with judges’ scores of 94 in the short round. Elshere had stayed on the bronc Redon Acres, and Bail received a great ride from Timely Delivery.
The six other finalist included Chet Johnson, Lusk, Wyo.,  who according to his competitors earned the highest score ever of 91 on top of the bronc Big Wig. Louie Brunson, Interior, earned 87 points by riding Anabella. Just behind, with 86 points, was Cort Sheer, Elsmere, Neb., with Prairie Dog. Travis Nelson, Philip, stayed on Paint Chip for 84 points. Having beaten the buzzer in the first round, Troy Crowser, Whitewood, couldn’t stay on top of Wild Cherry in the short round. Steven Dent, Mullen, Neb., also couldn’t hold on for eight seconds on top of Wiggle Worm.
