Wendell Earl Weaver

Wendell Earl Weaver, 93 died peacefully Sunday, October 16, 2022 at his home in Spearfish with his family by his side.
Wendell was born on February 4, 1929 in Ortonville, Minnesota. His parents were John Earl and Margaret Weaver. He attended first and second grades at a country school near Shade Hill, SD, he finished grades three through twelve at Bison, SD,  graduating in 1947.  He was raised along with sister Joyce and brother Mike Weaver.  He enjoyed time riding his motorcycle around with his friends through the county. During the summers he would ask farmers for work doing chores and herding livestock. He married Marie Dragoo on December 24, 1950 at the family farm at Lodge Pole, SD. They started their life on the Weaver family farm south of Bison until 1959 when they moved to Spearfish.  In September of that same year Wendell helped fight the Deadwood forest fire, which almost burned down the city of Deadwood.  Wendell and Marie had six beautiful children, Gloria, Monte, John, Patty, Quentin and Wade.
Wendell did a variety of jobs during his years from farming to road construction and having his own trucking company, where he had two or three trucks. He then started working for Homestake Sawmill and later Pope & Talbot, retiring in 1995. He then took on the responsibility of taking care of his parents.
Wendell had a good relationship with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going to car and tractor shows around the community. He liked to talk about his past about farm life and rodeo days to anyone who would listen.
Wendell is survived by his children; Gloria Smolik of Spearfish, Monte (Marie) Weaver of Boise, ID, Patty  (Jerry) Davidson of Whitewood, Quentin Weaver of Spearfish and Wade and partner Vicky Rishel of Spearfish,  grandchildren; David (Jessica) Smolik, Stacy (Paul) Johnson, Matthew Weaver, Jennifer Smolik, Todd (Amy) Nelson, Jared (Anadee) Weaver, James Weaver, Kimberly (David) Cohn, Cindell Thu, Amanda (Richard) Cameron, Jamie Davidson, Jonathan Davidson, Victoria (Richard) Hovdenes, Harley Ismay, Shayanne Weaver and Robert Weaver. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Hafner of Bishop, CA, brother, Mike (Evelyn) Weaver of Spearfish, brother-in-law, Maurice and Sandy Dragoo of Sturgis, sister-in-law, Jeanie Dragoo of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.
Wendell will be reunited with his loved ones in heaven, those include his parents Earl and Margaret Weaver, his mother and father in-law, Edgar and Martha Dragoo, his beloved wife, Marie, his son John Weaver, son-in-law, Ned Smolik and three brother-in laws, Norman Hafner, Don and Gordon Dragoo.
Visitation was from 2pm-4pm, Sunday, October 23 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services were held at 11am, Monday, October 24 at the funeral home. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
