Ronnie Sammons

Ronnie Sammons, age 86, of Midland, South Dakota , died on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home in Midland.
Ronald Gene Sammons was born on February 23, 1936 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Floyd and Ruby (Albery) Sammons. They lived on Ghost Canyon Road and helped Ruby’s folks at the Iron Mountain Café. Later they worked with Ernest Carter and put up hay in MN, ND, and the prairies of SD. They moved to Midland in 1949.
Ronnie graduated from Midland High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Emily Rauch of Belvidere June 6, 1954. He was employed by Don Sheeley at the standard station for a short time. He later helped his Dad in the hay field hauling hay to Belle Fourche, Wyoming, and other dairies in the hills. He worked for the county for one winter and drove truck for several years in the winter to Texas for Gus Larson hauling grain there and cake back. He bought his own truck and did long distance hauling for STC. In 1976 he bought his folks’ place on the Bad River when Ruby and Floyd moved to Rapid City. Ronnie bought Cliff Phillips’ trucking business and hauled cattle for several years.
Ronnie always enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards and games with the grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include his wife Emily of Midland; three children Ronnie Bill Sammons and his wife Margy of Newcastle, Wyoming, Corinne Norman and her husband Mitch of Hayes, and Mark Sammons and his wife Kris of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters Arlyne Markwed and her husband Billy of Midland, and JoAnne “Jo” Quatier of Tennessee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Ruby Sammons; a grandson Devon Sammons; a sister Shirley Fosheim; and two brothers-in-law Joe Fosheim and Bob Quatier.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday, October 14, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with Pastor Cindy Bisser officiating.
Interment followed at the Midland Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
