Rex was born on April 22, 2014 in Sioux City, IA to Cain and Kristin (Dirks) Radway. He lived with his family on an acreage West of Hinton, IA and he was a student at Hinton Elementary School where he had many friends and wonderful teachers.
Rex dove into life headfirst! He started walking at 9 months old and never slowed down from there. He loved to try and keep up with his older brother, Julian. Playing in the woods, building forts, fishing, swimming, watching YouTube videos, and playing video games were their favorite things to do together. Rex didn’t know a stranger; he made friends wherever he went. Anyone to have met him is a testament to that. Rex was an adventurous boy and full of life! He loved riding his four-wheeler and go-kart, ziplining, carnival rides, water parks, and sports with his friends-especially wrestling. He was a proud Hinton MatHawk and he never gave up on the mat. State wrestling was one of his favorite times. Not only the wrestling, but also the concession stands, arcade, swimming pool, and running around with his buddies.
Rex was a very kind, caring, and compassionate boy. He loved to snuggle with his family, especially his mom. He was the best of helpers too, whether it be helping in the kitchen or out mowing with his dad. Rex had a passion for gardening and cooking. He was proud of his garden and took joy in serving up his dishes and baked goods to anyone he knew. Rex was also a creator and had a wonderful imagination. He was curious and loved to learn beyond his years. Even at 8 years old, he enjoyed and listened intently to Bible podcasts with his mom. He was very persistent on knowing facts about everything and believed he was right, even when he sometimes wasn’t. Rex was his father’s shadow and idolized his dad’s skill in his trade as a lineman. He loved all the big machinery and all the big things he built.
Some of the best times Rex spent were with his brother, Julian, and sister, Pearl, and all his cousins. He cherished the time he got to spend with grandparents as well as his aunts and uncles; he loved them all very much.
Rex’s memory is left to be cherished by his parents, Cain and Kristin Radway; big brother, Julian Small; little sister, Pearl Radway; grandparents: Thomas ‘Tom’ and Marie (Brucklacher) Radway of Philip, SD and Richard ‘Rick’ and Robin (Haug) Dirks of Akron, Iowa; aunts and uncles: William and Marcy (Radway) Morrison of Rapid City, SD, Mindy (Radway) Smith of Chamberlain, SD, Alex and Jeni (Jacobs) Radway of Rapid City, SD, Braxton and Jordan (Dirks) Bursell of Akron, IA, and Daniel ‘Dan’ and Erin (Persinger) Dirks of Terril, IA; great grandma, Sandra (Anderson) Haug; 13, and soon to be 14, cousin; and numerous other extended relatives.
Rex has joined in heaven his aunt, Megan Dirks; and his great grandparents: Richard ‘Dick’ and Helen ‘Honey’ Dirks, his namesake Rex and Jeanne (Ferry) Radway, Dwight Haug, and Alvin and Lenore (Nelson) Brucklacher.
