Phyllis Kertzman

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, Phyllis Hannah Kertzman, age 88, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.
 
Phyllis was born Nov. 4, 1929, to Maurice “Jack” and Rose Hannah. 
 
She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1947, then entered St. John’s School of Nursing in Rapid City. 
 
While a student nurse, she met Paul Kertzman by caring for him in the burn unit. They married in September 1950, shortly after she graduated and began working at St. John’s Hospital, now Rapid City Regional Hospital. 
 
She earned her master’s degree in nursing administration from South Daktoa State University. In 1995, Phyllis retired, a beloved and respected nurse manager of the orthopedic and neurology floor.
 
In retirement, she volunteered over 2,000 hours of her time at the hospital, served actively in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, was a member of St. John Alumni Association, North American Nursing Association, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed traveling with Paul, planning family reunions, and spending time in the kitchen.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Paula (Bill) Tacke, Yankton, Craig (Edwina) Kertzman and Kristen (Kurt) Hahn, all of Rapid City, and Anne (Mike), Montgomery, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
 
Christian Funeral Mass was offered Saturday, Nov. 11, at the church with Rev. Brian Lane presiding. 
 
Interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
