Orville L. Anderson

Orville L. Anderson, 87, of Ft. Pierre formerly of Murdo died on Friday February 19 2021 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 27  at 2:00 p.m. in Murdo at the Harold Thune Auditorium. Due to health concerns the family requested that all of those in attendance wore a face covering. For those that were unable to attend the services they were live-streamed at the top of Orville’s obituary page at www.isburgfuneralchapels.com.
Orville Leroy Anderson was born on August 27, 1933 to John and Alice (Matheny) Anderson at the family home near Kennebec S.D. He grew up and attended school in Kennebec. Orville joined the US Army and served overseas during the Korean War. After his time in the service he spent a short time in Indiana where he met the love of his life Lola Stout. They moved to South Dakota and were married in Kennebec on April 18 1960. What started out as a chance encounter at a restaurant in Indiana between a guy from South Dakota and a girl from Indiana turned into a love story that lasted for over 60 years. They eventually made their home in Murdo where they raised their family and owned and operated Anderson Gas and Appliance for  many years. Orville was a family man who loved his family and his community, in 2019 he was honored to be chosen as the Murdo Chamber of Commerce Community Volunteer of the year. If he wasn’t fishing or “checking in” with friends you could find Orville having coffee with the guys telling a story with a joke. He was a member of the American Legion Post 75 and the Messiah Lutheran Church in Murdo.
He is survived by his wife Lola of Ft. Pierre, S.D., his son Douglas (Jennifer) of Pierre, S.D., his daughters Diane (Cullan) Deis of Ft. Pierre, S.D., and Dee (Rye) Randa of Los Angeles, Calif. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Christina, Danial, Amanda, Morgan, Nathanael, Paige, Elaine and Charlei; six great-grandchildren Aubrie, Brianna, Roan, Wrangler, Treytan and Holtyn; three siblings Lucille, Laura, and Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings Gladys, Mildred, Andy, Ingel, Mabel, Opal, Gertrude, Gene, Lenara and Leo.
Isburg Funeral Chapels has been placed in charge of care of the arrangements and online condolences can be sent to the family at www.isburgfuneralchapels. com.
