Nels P. Paulson, Jr.

Nels P. Paulson, Jr., age 78, Hayes, S.D., died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at his home. 
 
Nels was born Sept. 10, 1938, at home, the youngest child of Nels, Sr. and Helen Paulson. He was baptized in the Lutheran church.  
 
Nels attended Kuhl School through eighth grade. He was a rancher/farmer all his life except for the time he served in the National Guard.
 
He married Dorothy I. Petersen in Pierre Feb. 2, 1962, to this union one daughter, Tammy Jo, was born.
 
His special interests were many. He was an avid Allis Chalmers tractor fan and collector, also collected stamps and rocks. He enjoyed doing puzzles, gardening, hunting and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Four Corners Fire Department, Kirley Rifle Club and Kirley Hall B-B Gun Team.
 
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; a special daughter, Lorri Rathbun; and the Hartmann boys, godson, Randy, Damon and Darrell; aunt, Julia Broecher; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, as well as many friends and neighbors. 
 
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Jo, and a set of premature twins; parents, Nels, Sr. and Helen Paulson; sister, Frances, and her husband, Frank Bennett; halfsister, Margie, and her husband, Don Murphy; halfsister, Dorothy, and her husband, O.W. Marshall; and halfbrother, John “Jack” Gropper.
 
Memorials may be directed to Four Corners Fire Department, Kirley Hall or Deep Creek Church.
 
Services were held Saturday, July 29,  Deep Creek Church with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officiating. 
 
Burial followed at Deep Creek Cemetery.
