Natalie C. (Swanson) Tines-Termes

Natalie C. (Swanson) Tines-Termes, age 97, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.

Natalie was born in New Underwood, S.D., Oct. 23, 1919, to Tory and Mary (Hopkins) Swanson. She received her education at New Underwood School and graduated in 1939. She then married Johnny Tines April 4, 1940. To this union four children were born. Jack was born on their first anniversary, followed by Joan, Kay and Cary.

After 45 years of marriage, her husband, Johnny, passed away. She later met and married Bill Termes. With this union came beloved stepchildren Tom (Arlene) Termes, Bill (Barb) Termes and additional grandchildren. Bill passed away in 1995.
Natalie loved to cook and was known fondly for the oyster stew she made Christmas Eve. She was born with an amazing green thumb and grew abundant vegetables and beautiful flowers. She drove many miles to attend family events and participate in church where she placed God in her heart and kept Him there for each generation to follow.

Natalie was the postmaster at Elm Springs for 27 years where friends and neighbors came to pick up their mail and enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation.  She was actively involved in WTL club, Cow Belles, and the Red Hat; receiving numerous awards for her services. Even after retirement, she volunteered at Minneluzahan Senior Center. She donated 29 years and 11,000 hours of service to the RSVP, and was awarded Volunteer of the Year at the age of 97.

Natalie traveled to many states and visited several countries accompanying Bill, family and friends. Her adventurous spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her. At age 95, she rode a Harley down main street Deadwood, a place where she loved to visit frequently and take her chances betting high on the penny machines. She also participated in parasailing in Hawaii twice while in her 90s, after her first go-round she expressed her disappointment by not getting her feet dunked in the ocean like everybody else. Upon her second time her family made sure she got to have the feel of the ocean wash over her toes.

Natalie had a secret super power by always remembering her loved ones with the numerous birthday cards that had been specially selected by her. Natalie always left us with a hug and a kiss and will be remembered as an amazing woman!

Natalie was preceeded in death by her cherished husband, Johnny; dear husband, Bill; brothers, Delbert and Gene; a sister, Patty; a son, Jack; a daughter, Kay; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Timber.

She is survived by her children, Joan (Ronnie) Racicky and Cary (Pam) Tines; 15 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at St. Therese The Little Flower Catholic Church, Rapid City. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial is established in her honor to Minneluzahan Center and Saint John’s Catholic Church in New Underwood.
