Lydia Jahraus

Lydia Jahraus, 95, Eureka, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.  
    Lydia Edna Moser, daughter of John J. and Louisa (Goehring) Moser, was born near Mound City on May 31, 1920. She was brought up southeast of Mound City and attended Dewey Rural School. Following her schooling, she helped on the family farm and worked as a hired girl for other families. Lydia married Calvin Jahraus on July 1, 1945 at the Herreid Baptist Church. They settled on Calvin’s homeplace two and a half miles northeast of Greenway. In April 1979, they relocated to Eureka where Lydia lived the rest of her life. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church and previously was a member and taught Sunday school at the Congregational Church in Greenway. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking, baking, and gardening.  
    Mrs. Jahraus is survived by three children: Pastor Donald (Pastor Sharon) Jahraus of Trenton, Mo., Loretta (Dennis W.) Meyer of Huron and Dennis (Cheryl) Jahraus of Eureka; one brother—Carl Moser of Selby; two half brothers—Ted Moser and Darold Moser of Mound City; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Keith) Hespe and their children Wyatt, Kalli, and Zachary; Angela (Bill) Anderson and their children Henry, Lydia, and Eleanor; Sara (Ryan) Miller and their children Lane, Tate, and Gabe; Valerie (Troy) Anderson and their children Joseph, Lucas, and Reid; Dustin (Jessica) Jahraus and their children Ellie, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Sophie; David (Kristy) Jahraus and their daughter Emily.
     Lydia was preceded in death by husband, Calvin, on September 14, 2014 following 69 years of marriage; her father on January 18, 1989, her mother on April 9, 1929, and two sisters (Rose Wacker and Tillie Bauer).
    Honorary bearers were the staff of the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center, Lydia’s home the past 15 months.
    Casketbearers were Keith Hespe of Okaton, Bill Anderson of Vermillion, Ryan Miller of Winfred, Troy Anderson of Centerville, Dustin Jahraus of Mound City, and David Jahraus of Pella, Iowa.

    Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Eureka, with Pastor Gary Bergman leading the service. Interment followed at the Eureka Cemetery. Ushers were Cliff Berreth and Don Heupel. Musicians were Pastor Gary and Linda Bergman, Esther Grosz, Angela and Valerie Anderson, Sara Miller, and Lydia’s great grandchildren.
    Visitation was held at Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka, on Friday, May 6, 2016.
