Leon Ross Rankin

  Leon Ross Rankin, age 68, Piedmont, blessed his parents, Herb and Mary Alice Rankin, with his birth  July 27, 1949. He left this earth to join them as well as his Heavenly Father April 12, 2018.
Leon grew up in Viewfield, north of New Underwood, and graduated from New Underwood High School in 1968. After graduation, he worked in the oil fields in both Wyoming and North Dakota. He then joined the Army and later switched to the Navy.  He did two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a decorated veteran with multiple awards and citations he earned during the Vietnam War.  
He then moved to Denver where he went to school for refrigeration; after completing his training he held various jobs in that field. He also went back to working in the oil fields and after that worked in construction for several years.
Leon was a very talented mechanic and loved Fords. However, one of his greatest loves was his Harley. Riding and spending time with his friends was his passion.  He had many friends due to his big heart and good nature which helped him easily make and keep friends. He cherished those friends and his family dearly as they did him.
He is going to be greatly missed by those friends as well as his family.
Survivors include four sisters, Illa (Dennis) Anderson, Mary Ann Rankin, Linda (David) Bay, Deloris (Kenny) Whaley; four brothers, Leroy (Donna) Rankin, Albert (Cindy) Rankin, Jerry (Dawna) Rankin, Dean (Kris) Rankin; also, many nieces and nephews as well as a special friend, Annette Borrego and her daughters Crystal and Brandi.  He also leaves behind his precious little dog, Sox.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, Bobbi Pagllus.
Celebration of Life services were April 18, 2018 with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating at Kirk Funeral Home.  
Inurnment followed at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warriors Project.
