Jerry Lee Boyer, age 80, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Rapid City.
 
Jerry was born on December 22, 1936 at Belle Fourche, S.D., to Emery L. and Dorothy B. (Kachelhoffer) Boyer.
 
He was raised and educated in Belle Fourche, graduating from Belle Fourche High School in 1954. During his school years, he was active in athletics and music including several years playing in the Belle Fourche Cowboy Band.
 
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1963 with the rank of Sergeant. During his active duty years (1955-1958), Jerry served in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and the United States.
 
In January of 1959 he became a member of the Rapid City Police Department where he served until September, 1961 at which he joined the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He served nearly 33 years with the Patrol. During his career, he was stationed in Wall, Britton, Aberdeen, and Sioux Falls. At the time of his retirement in 1994, he held the rank of Captain and was serving as District Commander of District 2 with headquarters in Sioux Falls. During this time he earned an A.A. Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota.
 
Jerry and Betty Pearson were united in marriage July 2, 1962 in Belle Fourche. They and their two daughters shared the joys and tribulations of being a law enforcement family for over three decades.
Upon retirement, Jerry and Betty returned to Aberdeen to live while they developed their acreage in the Black Hills.
 
He was a member of the South Dakota Peace Officers Association, South Dakota Highway Patrol Retirees Association, Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, and the Marine Corps League.
 
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters: Connie (Doug) Tribble; Carmen (Mike) Carda; four grandsons: Landon Carda; Aaron, Joshua, and Matthew Tribble; two granddaughters: Chelse and Danielle Carda; four great granddaughters: Ayla and Addison Carda and Ariana and Mikayla Tribble; two great grandsons: Andrew and JJ Tribble.
 
Private family services will be held.

Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard. A funeral procession was held from Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
