James H. Judy, Jr.

Graveside services for Rev. James Judy, age 93, Prairie City, South Dakota, were held at 7:00 p.m. MT on Sunday evening, August 2, 2015 at the Prairie City Cemetery in Prairie City, SD. Rev. Brad Burkhalter officiated.
James H. Judy Jr. was born on July 11, 1922 at the Judy farm four miles southeast of Strool, SD. He attended grade school at Maltby township school ¾ of a mile from the Judy homestead. James and his sisters attended high school in Bison, South Dakota, where James graduated in 1940.
James worked for Ted Beckman for one year before attending Northern State Teachers College with his sister, Hazel. They both received a grade-school teaching certificate. Following his graduation, James joined the United States Naval Reserve and began flight training, receiving his wings in June of 1945. WWII ended and James began his ministerial education at Marion College in Marion, IN. While in college he met Edna E. Shelor, and on June 12, 1945 they were united in marriage. Two children were born to this union, Stephen in 1952 and Joanne in 1956.
James and his family moved many times over the years, pastoring churches in IN, SD, MT, AZ and CA. He continued his ministry for over 47 years, before retiring in 1995. He returned “home” to be closer to family and friends, and eventually resided close to his family homestead. Edna went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2014 and James remained at home, taking care of himself for the next year.
He entered the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger, ND, on July 21, 2015 and passed away there on July 31, 2015.
He leaves to honor his memory his son, Stephen (Debbie) Judy; daughter, Joanne White; three nieces, Esther Mary (Bingaman) Wilkinson, Betty Lou (Bingaman) Thompson and Marilyn (Brixey) Dulitz; four nephews, Robert and James Bingaman and Stanley and Timothy Brixey; two granddaughters, Lynda Wynn and Heather Zachery; one grandson, Adam White and one great grandson Zachery White.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Edna; and his siblings.
