Jack James Freeman

Jack James Freeman, 93, Rapid City, SD, passed away peacefully at the Monument Hospital on October 7, 2022 from a stroke.  Jack was born on August 28, 1929 to Ralph and Lucille (Slater) Freeman in Lipscomb County, TX.
Jack grew up on a wheat farm/ranch and attended school in Follett, TX.  In 1945, the family purchased a ranch near Gardner, CO.  He graduated from high school in Walsenberg.  He attended college in Fort Collins, then a trade school in Pueblo and began working as a welder.
In 1949, Jack moved with his family to Red Coat Ranch in Ziebach County, SD.  He was drafted into the Army in 1951, attended basic training in South Carolina, and made the most of two years of active duty in Germany.
In 1954, Jack and Gail Ann Zimmerman were united marriage.  Together, they ranched and raised a family.  They had three children, Jeffery Scott, Dana, and Dawn.
Jack was proud of his family, the ranch, Hereford cattle, and quarter horses.  After retiring in 2010, to reside in Rapid City.  He enjoyed many traveling adventures to visit family, fishing trips to Alaska, and helicopter "business" trips with his son as pilot.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lucille Freeman; sister, Betty; brothers, "Pard" JP Freeman and LT Col. RD Freeman; and daughter-in-law, Nicole Freeman.
Jack is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Jeff of Colorado; daughters, Dana (Mike) Stroud of Wyoming and Dawn (Augie) Laurenz of Faith, SD; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Sammi, Bobbie, and Gerri Laurentz, Travis Holley, and Faith and AJ Freeman; and six great-grandsons.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at Black Hills National Cemetery.  A reception for family and friends will follow at the Sturgis FVW, 868 Main in Sturgis.
