Dorothy Kay Newman, age 73, of Fairview, Tenn., passed away May 29, 2017, peacefully at her home.
Dorothy Kay was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Kadoka, S.D., to Kristian and Evelyn (Ruesink) Paulson. She grew up in the Hilland area and attended her first eight years of education in a country school, and proceeded to attend and graduate from Philip High School. She then went to St. John’s McNamara Nursing School and received her nursing degree and registered nurse certificate.
She then met the love of her life, Paul Newman, whom she married on Aug. 21, 1965 in the Lutheran Church in Hilland. They had two sons and one daughter.
She was very active in churches, schools, communities and service organizations in each of the 10 cities she and Paul lived in. Dorothy Kay was a member of Lutheran churches around the country until moving to Fairview, Tenn., in 1999 and becoming a member of Westview United Methodist Church. She loved music, especially old hymns. She will always be remembered for her pleasant personality, warm smile, hearty laugh, her heart of service to others and known as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Jeffrey Allen.
Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 51 years; one son, Bryan Paul of St. Paul, Minn.; one daughter, Julie Ann Davis (Richard) of Franklin, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Sarah; three grandsons, Joshua, Joseph and Jonathan; one sister, DeMaris Nesheim (Erv); two brothers, Gordon Paulson (Diane) and Gaylord Paulson (Beva); and a blessed multitude of family and friends.

A Life Celebration was held Saturday, June 3, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, Nashville, Tenn.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip with Pastor Ray Greenseth officiating.
