Carolyn Anders

Carolyn Anders, age 87, of Wall, South Dakota, died on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Monument Health in Rapid City.

Carolyn Cordes Anders was born in New Underwood, South Dakota on August 29th, 1934, to Milton and Hallie Funk Cordes. Carolyn grew up on a ranch near Elm Springs. Fond memories from this time included riding horses, slid- ing off the barn roof and attending Rally Days where Carolyn beat her sister Twila's record in the 50-yard dash. Carolyn attended the Dalzell school until the 8th grade. She then attended Sturgis High School and graduated in 1952. Her favor- ite part of high school was playing the clarinet in the band. After high school Carolyn obtained her teach- ing certificate and taught at the Chafee school near Union Center. Then she and her sister, Belva, moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked for the telephone com- pany.

On May 14, 1955, Carolyn mar- ried Marvin Anders in Lead, South Dakota. Marvin worked for Clark Construction, so they traveled throughout the state for the first few years of marriage. Then, they moved to the family ranch where Carolyn stayed busy as a working ranch wife helping Marvin. As the ranch thrived so did their family with the welcome arrival of their daughter Shirley followed by their son Rod. In addition to helping on the ranch, Carolyn worked at the Elm Springs school for the Meade County school district and the South Dakota tourism bureau in Wasta. Carolyn was also active in the Elm Springs community. She served on the election board, at- tended the Elm Springs church, and was a founding member of the community card club where court whist reigned. Carolyn was also a member of the South Dakota Cow- belles (eat beef!)

After Marvin's sudden passing, Carolyn moved next door to her sister Twila in Wall, for her next chapter. She enjoyed social gath- erings with family and friends, lis- tening to music, traveling and competitive games of ten-point pitch.

Carolyn died on July 22 at the

Rapid City Hospital with her chil- dren by her side. Our world is less bright with her passing. Carolyn's unique perspectives, colorful com- mentary and humor will be missed by all.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley and husband Casey Trask, son Rod and wife Kelly, grandchil- dren Baxter Anders and wife Skyler, Courtney Ireland and hus- band David, Chance Trask, Dun- bar Anders, Jonnie Jo Anders, Taken Anders and seven great grandchildren: Merit, Henry, Navy, Salem, Hannah, Story, and Dutch. She is also survived by siblings: Twila Trask, Belva Reilly, Kay Abbott (Bill), Kirk Cordes, Sam Cordes (Trish), sister-in-law Jo Strong, brother-in-law Wilbur Bachand; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Marvin; parents; sister Jeanne Bachand; four brothers-in-law Buck Kling, Mil- ton Trask, Ken Reilly, and Floyd Strong; and a sister-in-law Kathy Cordes.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Elm Springs Cemetery, with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiat- ing.
