Betty Walker

A Family Service for Betty B. Walker, age 91 of Lemmon, formerly of Isabel and Faith, SD; will be held at 10:30 am MT on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Fr Dan Juelfs will officiate with interment in the Hillview Cemetery in Isabel.

Serving as casketbearer s are Phoebe Lemke, Bridget Russell, Margo Wishard, Jan Harris, Amy Kropp, and Sabrina Plucker.
Betty Berniece Brinkman was born on August 30, 1929 in her parent’s farm home south of Isabel, SD in Dewey County to Fred H. and Alvina K. (Straub) Brinkman. She grew up south of Isabel and was educated in rural school at Glad Valley and graduated from high school in Isabel.  She was united in marriage to Emerson Harris on June 7, 1946 in Pierre, SD. To this union 5 children were born, Rebecca, Vern, Mona Jill, Barton, John, and James. They lived in the Glad Valley area and raised their family on a ranch there. Betty actively helped with the ranch work raising both sheep and cattle.  Emerson passed away in 1977.
In August of 1977, Betty went to Pierre for L.P.N Training.
On June 30, 1978, Betty was united in marriage to William L. Mackey at Meadow, SD. Betty worked at the Hettinger Hospital for a time and lived on the Mackey ranch northwest of Usta on Rabbit Creek. She helped with the ranching, haying, and fencing. Bill died in 1991 and Betty continued to live on the place until 1995.
On June 2, 1993, Betty was united in marriage to Clarence Walker at Faith, SD. They enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, AZ and summers in Faith and travelling the eastern and northern states. Clarence passed away in 2001. Betty continued living in Faith and when her health began to fail moved to Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. She passed from this life there on Sunday evening, February 14, 2021 at the age of 91 years, 5 months, 14 days.
She served on the Glad Valley School Board for many years and the Faith Senior Citizens board. She was a life member of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving family member include her 3 sons, Barton Harris (Nancy Lashley), Stapleton, NE; John Harris (Cindy Goretsky), Bridgerville, PA; James (Marilyn) Harris, Sturgis, SD; daughter, Rebecca  Stapert, Florence, MT; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Delfred (Helen) Brinkman, Isabel, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Vern in Vietnam; infant daughter, Mona Jill; son-in-law, Duane Stapert; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemarie & Alex Zahrowski.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the church of your choice or the Kidney Foundation.
