Betty Lou Pederson

Betty Lou Pederson, age 86, of Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Avantara Mountainview Nursing Home in Rapid City.
 
Betty Lou Ballard was born February 7, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was adopted by Joe Ballard. She graduated from high school in 1951.

Betty met Gordon Pederson in 1953 and on March 8, 1955, they were united in marriage in Indianapolis. They had four children: James, Carol, Nancy, and Gary.

Betty would spend the next 15 years following her husband, Gordon, to his various military postings including three years in Germany and three and a half years in Panama. In 1970 Gordon retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and they moved to Wall. Betty began working as accountant at Wall Drug shortly after. She worked there for 22 years.

Betty enjoyed playing cards with her Wall Drug friends, spending time with grandchildren, and traveling. She was a long time member of the Wall First Lutheran Church and president of the Wall Lion’s Club.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Nick Niemann of Edwardsville, Illinois, Tyler Niemann of Edwardsville, Illinois, Matthew Holub of Mason City, Iowa, and Grant Holub of Rapid City; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Niemann and Greysen Mann; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gordon on August 20, 2011; sons Gary and James Pederson; daughters, Carol Naescher and Nancy Holub.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the First Lutheran Church in Wall with Pastor Christopher McCarthy officiating.

Interment will follow at the Wall Cemetery.
