Arthur Mednansky, age 89, Kadoka, S.D., died on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Ft. Meade.
Arthur “Art” Mednansky was born on April 8, 1926, to Mike and Emma Mednansky. He was the 11th of 14 children. The family lived in Cottonwood and Philip before moving to a homestead north of Kadoka. All of his school years were in Kadoka.
Art entered the Marine Corps in September of 1944 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946.

After his discharge from the service, Art worked for various ranchers and was also in law enforcement, including working for Shorty Pearson when he was county sheriff. Art also ran for sheriff in 1968.
Art worked in the construction business for many years, working for Keith Brakke and later forming Petras-Mednansky Construction with Andy Petras. After Andy’s health started to fail they disbanded the company. Art continued to do smaller jobs on his own, until his health would no longer allow him to do so.
Art loved to fish and hunt, taking many hunting trips to Colorado with his two brothers, Ed and Bud, and friends, Jim Root and Jerry Patterson. He always loved taking his grandson, Kevin, fishing and they would go every chance they got.
Grateful for sharing his life are his daughters, Crystal "Chris" Kusick and her husband, Kenny, Kadoka, and Deb Hall and her husband, Kevin, Egan; stepson, Fred Hoag, Philip; grandchildren, Kevin (Robin) Kusick, Hope (Mike) Jacobs and Care Bosanco; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Jo Kusick, Macy and Alana Jacobs; brothers, Ervin "Bud" Mednansky of Bandera, Texas, and Ed Mednansky of Carrollton, Ga.; a sister, Gladys Lien, Irene; and a very large number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
