Alice I. Munger

Alice Irene Munger was born June 17, 1928, at their homestead in northeast Wyoming, to Charles and Mildred Lamb.


She attended country school through eighth grade and then boarded in Gillette, Wyo., where she graduated high school. After high school, she boarded a bus headed to Santa Cruz, Calif., for Western Union training. On this trip, she met Derold Munger who was on his way back to Fort Lewis, Wa. Alice quit school and they were married on May 2, 1947 at Fort Lewis. To this union were born eight children, three boys and five girls. Upon Derold’s discharge, they returned to his home near Wanblee, S.D.


Derold’s career took them to Kadoka, Belvidere, Belle Fourche and lastly Wall, where they retired. Upon their retirement they enjoyed camping, traveling and snowbirding in Arizona with family and friends.


During her lifetime, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafts, sewing, and teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Alice, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Custer Regional Senior Care.


Grateful for having shared her life are a son, Dale Munger, Spearfish; five daughters, Patty (Dennis) Golz, Spearfish, Phoebe (Clark) Cassel, Placerville, Idaho, Lynne Munger, Custer, Carol (Dan) Kessler, Black Hawk, Donna (Dennis) Page, Spearfish; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.


Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Derold Munger; two sons, Dennis and Donald; and two sisters, Dorothy Terry and Edith Blakeman.


Memorial contributions will be used to purchase Bibles through Gideon’s International.


A Ceremonial Tribute will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church in Spearfish, with Pastors Mark Chaplin and Jason Dalton officiating.


Inurnment will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
